incoming tecnology

Keeping relevant in the industry must be of the utmost importance if you’re going to survive in this world; like iv said before it’s a dog eat dog world and if you don’t adapt you die (in the industry). It’s an interesting thought to think what may be around the corner, technology is what will shape the future, whether this will be 3D printed cars or new methods of propulsion, autonomous machine is going to be a part of this future, this is a technology which although isn’t new, is going into the stage where it is smart and borderline ready for the public and industry, Autonomous vehicles interest me not just because they are a cool idea but because of the practical benefits in everyday life. Having self-driving tractors in the fields of autonomous delivery vans roaming the streets, is something that isn’t far away, but my worry with fazing in autonomous vehicles is first off how many jobs will these machines pull away from the general public, if one machine can do the work of 10 people then there isn’t a benefit to having the 10 people meaning that unemployment will increase and sure these vehicles will need maintaining but that job will fall to someone who is qualified and not in the same demographic and the people the machine is replacing.                   My second issue is judgment, for example say a human operating combine harvester is at work cutting barley and there is a child playing in that field, but the only sign is the movement of the plants, to a human logic would say that there was something in the field and the person driving would stop and investigate. But what if this combine was autonomous, could this machine distinguish the subtle changes in movement in the plants from the wind moving the barley to a child crawling through the field. Granted this is an extreme example, but it makes me and a lot of people question whether fully autonomous vehicles should be part of the future. I think that they will have their place with family cars meaning the driver can fully interact with the rest of the car making the whole experience of traveling from a to b much more for filling for everyone in the car, but I also think a balance would need to be met so that in the case of an emergency the drive could take control of the vehicle. The other side of the coin is what about people who enjoy the experience of driving, how can a drivers interaction be kept at a satisfying level in an autonomous car, now I don’t have an answer to this, but it’s an exciting thought to think about how this and all the problems I have flagged will be overcome and I look forward to learning as this technology matures so that I can stay relevant in the industry.
